Wendy Jane Harcourt


Professor Dr Wendy Harcourt was appointed full Professor and a Westerdijk Professor together with an endowed Chair of Gender, Diversity and Sustainable Development at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of the Erasmus University (in The Hague) in October 2017. She is Coordinator of the EU H2020-MSCA-ITN-2017 Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (ITN) WEGO (Well-being, Ecology, Gender, and Community) awarded in May 2017. Professor Harcourt joined the ISS in November 2011 after 23 years at the Society for International Development (Rome) as Editor of the journal Development and Director of Programmes. She is series editor of the Palgrave Gender, Development and Social Change and the ISS-Routledge Series on Gender, Development and Sexuality.

Researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)’s Regional Centre for Multidisciplinary Research. Dr Oswald achieved the first chair on Social Vulnerability at the United Nations University. She studied medicine, psychology, philosophy, languages, anthropology and ecology in Madagascar, Paris, Zurich and Mexico; she was Secretary of Environmental Development in Morelos as well as the first Attorney of Ecology in Mexico. She is a member of the IPCC, PINCC, ISSC, IIASA and RIOCC-Adapt of Latin America. In addition to having written 57 books and 398 scientific articles / chapters, she has won multiple awards: 4th decade of the UN, Sor Juana, Ecological Merit, Academic Woman, Women of the Year 2000, Emiliano Zapata Medal (2016) and merit for 50 years of research, amongst others.

Koldo Unceta Satrústegui


Chair professor of Applied Economics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He was the promoter and first director of Hegoa Institute for International Cooperation and Development Studies, position he held between 1987 and 2000. He was also Principal Investigator of the Research Group on Analysis and Evaluation of Development Cooperation Policies in Hegoa Institute between 2009 and 2017. He is a member of different academic associations and belongs to various editorial committees of specialised journals. In addition, he has taught at several universities in Spain, Europe, the United States and Latin America. He is the author of more than 70 publications on world economy, development and international cooperation. He has received several awards, such as the recent Ekonomistak Saria 2019 Award from the Basque Association of Economists.

Chair Professor of Sociology at the University of Coimbra’s Faculty of Economics and Distinguished Legal Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison´s Faculty of Law. In addition, he is Emeritus Director of the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra and Coordinator of the Permanent Observatory of Portuguese Justice, at the same university. He directed between 2011 and 2016 the research project ALICE -Strange mirrors, unexpected lessons. New ways for Europe to share the experiences of the world-, with funding from the European Research Council. Professor de Sousa has published extensively on epistemology, sociology of law, political sociology, postcolonial theory, globalization, social movements, multicultural democracy and human rights, in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, French, German, Chinese and Romanian.
